Walled Lake Sail Day One

J&J got some good speed runs, and Sean did well with nominal instruction. Great fun to see Bruce and meet two other newbies...one a first timer, another on the ice for the second time.
Grins abound all around.

Shameless Promotion Division of Sandhill Soaring

Take a look at the fun everyone had at Glen Betzoldt’s expense…err generosity…by clicking on the link below.

A number of Sandhill members came out and were given a taste of what pro racer Betzoldt does during the winter….ICE BOATING.  I am newly addicted and would strongly encourage everyone to take Glen and his lovely bride Laura up on any future offerings of fun.  It is truly a blast.

Jon Russell took a video at great risk of frostbite, and Glenn got it posted to http://www.iceboat.org/  check it out!!! (under Sand Lake Sailing, just a little down the page)    This site is one of the main gathering places of ice boating aficionados,  and Glenn has given Sandhill Soaring a good plug on this well recognized forum…maybe we can get a few iceboaters to see what soaring has to offer.  This is my sworn mission for the balance of these cold and frigid wintry days…..when not doing my best to get cleared through Bravo airspace by the DTW controllers flying the Tuskegee Airmen TG7.

Lots to do as a Sandhill family….stay close with each other this winter and let’s make sure we all see each other on New Year’s Day!.

Happy Holidays.

JGH

Yes, Jon Russell and I bought one of Glenn’s boats and will be hoping for clear ice and good winds for the rest of the winter; AND hoping to see many of you out enjoying ice boating as well….see jandjracing.blogspot.com

Thanks particularly to Glenn Betzoldt, who will soon come to regret his new found status of mentor!

Seriously, it is amazing how the addition of friends and camaraderie can spark an entirely new (ad)venture in such a short time. Hanging on for the ride...literally! Should be fun.

...'here, you haul on the sheet...' and 'just make sure you steer around the ice fishermen...'

AND WE'RE OFF

Team J & J comes together

It all started out simply enough, 20 degrees, sunny and 20 knots out of the SW, a fine day for a sail.

One ride on a two place boat and there was no turning back, team J & J Racing was forged.

This blog serves to track the adventures and mishaps of J & J Racing.

The team begins the 2010 season with one boat - The J1, a fine example of a vintage West Epoxy hull, aluminum mast, DN class boat, purchased from a good friend and Ice Boat expert Glen Betzoldt.  One brief conference call Sunday afternoon and the deal was done, gears in motion.

We take on this adventure together with great enthusiasm, as a way to bring friends and family together for fun times through the cold and windy winter months.

Stay tuned for the adrenaline filled stories and the addition of a second boat to the racing program - known as the J2.
